Carlos Pavon Waived?

The juice: The transaction isn't official yet, but it appears as if Pavon will be released by the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The judge: People either love or hate Pavon, most criticizing him for his inability to score more goals with David Beckham serving him up balls. Last year Pavon scored 3 goals with 0 assists in a Galaxy lineup that felt thrown together most of the season. This may be an indication that talks went well with Żurawski, the Celtic striker who the Galaxy have been trying to sign, who might replace Pavon.

As for being picked up be another team, I'm not quite convinced anyone would touch Pavon. He is old and we have seen his skills decline over the last few years. I think someone would have to be pretty desperate at the position, and would be willing to take a risk on him.

Final thoughts: Pavon is just getting too old, and the Galaxy are probably looking for someone more high profile at his position at this point. As for other teams signing Pavon, there aren't many people looking for an aging striker. Most clubs are searching for a younger impact guy with great potential. Pavon just doesn't fit the bill for most teams' plans anymore.

Pavon is a great player, and has shown it. He didn't get enough minutes in galaxy, and did not play with beckham often, due to his injury. Before Galaxy Pavon was the leading scorer in the gold cup, and was leading scorer in the Honduran league, which is not any worse than the MLS. The MLS, is not a good league at all.
